Rapper Heavy D died today at the age of 44.
The performer, whose real name is Dwight Arrington Myers, was rushed to hospital this afternoon after collapsing at his Beverly Hills home, according to TMZ.
His neighbours are saying that he's had a heart attack, though it has not yet been confirmed.
A business associate of the singer says that he had pneumonia at the time of his death.
The website spoke to law enforcement, who recounted Myers' last moments.
'Heavy D had just returned from shopping and walked up some stairs when he began having trouble breathing.'
'Adam Mills, a designer who was in the building and knew Heavy D, found him leaning against a railing and clearly in distress.'
Mills spoke to TMZ, telling them that he cradled the rapper in his lap as others called 911.
Heavy D was conscious at the time, telling Mills: 'I can't breathe, I can't breathe.'
When the paramedics arrived, he still had a pulse.
A police statement read: 'There are no obvious signs of foul play, and at this time his death is believed to be medically related.'
The case has been referred to the Coroner's Office to determine the official cause of death.
The star, who enjoyed success during the Nineties with his group Heavy D & the Boyz, was pronounced dead at an LA medical centre at 1pm.
Emergency services arrived at his home after a call was made to report an unconscious male, the website reports.

The cause of death is unknown and police are investigating.
Of one thing they are quite sure, however: that no foul play was involved. The law officials told TMZ that the cause of his death was 'medical.'
He last tweeted 16 hours ago, telling his followers: 'BE INSPIRED!'
Last month, Heavy D took to the stage at the BET Awards and also performed at the Michael Jackson tribute concert in Cardiff.
